A below average week, but not hugely damaging to my rank. My two transfers in Mkhitaryan and Ings failed to deliver. Ings was subbed off early and apparently has a blister, making him a doubt for the weekend. Looking at his fixtures I’m not really sure why I bought him in, blinded by the stats on that one. Mkhi has great fixtures going forward so I’m still hopeful of some decent returns there.
I chose the right captain at least, with Liverpool continuing their excellent start to the season. Salah could have had more as well if his finishing had been better, although on another day Aguero could have had a brace. I’ll be putting the armband back on Aguero for GW4, he loves playing Newcastle, scoring 8 goals in the last two home games! There’s been a bit of talk in the community about putting the triple captain on him, but for me i’ll always save the triple captain for a double gameweek.
My score wasn’t helped by Richarlison being sent off for sticking his face into Adam Smith’s. However a large proportion of FPL managers who had started the season strongly would have owned him, so i didn’t really lose out too much compared to others. Richarlison will be suspended for two premier league games (the other will be served in the league cup), and his price will drop, so it’s advisable to sell.
Walcott is the obvious straight swap choice, he’s scored a couple of goals already, is similarly priced and has [HUD, WHM] in the next 2GWs. However, I will be downgrading him instead and getting in Neves who, although playing in a deep position, does shoot a lot, and is on corners and direct free kicks. For his price (5.0) all he needs to do is get 1-2 goals and assists over the next 5 GWs (before I WC after GW8) to outscore his value.
Bringing in Neves will free up enough budget to transfer in Alonso for Smith (who also got sent off, but was thankfully on my bench), and also gives me the option to get Hazard in for Mane in GW5 if I want to. Chelsea look decent, and their fixtures of [BOU, CAR, whm] look too good to turn down. Alonso is also playing like a left winger. and is owned by a third of the game, so it’s damaging to my rank if he does well, I’m happy to get him in for a hit this week.
Overall not the best week, but certainly not a disaster and no need to panic. Team still looks strong and should score well moving forward. With so many managers playing their wildcard it is tempting to pull the trigger, however if your team has decent form and fixtures it’s best to hold off if you can. A lot can change in a week of fantasy football, it might be a completely different set of players we want to bring in after GW4.
